Weird Existing Animals

Call for Mail Art: Weird (existing) Animals! Platypus, Tapir, Okapi, Echidna, Mole, Axolotl are some of my favourite animals. They have in common that they exist irl and that they are uncommon. Which animal do you think odd? Send your image of an unusual (existing, no fantasy) animal. All media are welcomed, preferable postcard size (10x15 cms), maximum A4 (20x30 cms). No jury, no fee, no return. All weird existing animals will be published in this ongoing virtual exhibition.

Nicole Eippers (7)

Wow, that's a clearly weird animal!
The Cladonota Benitezi is a member of the family of Membracidae, insects related to the cicadas and the leafhoppers.
Thank you very much, Nicole, for sending this weird animal which is new to me!

I found more pictures of these amazing creatures on this website, which says "Membracidae: Wonder of terrestrial biodiversity", but I'd rather say they seem to be extraterrestrial miracles!
This Benitez' treehopper is a cousin of the previously turned-into-Mail-Art Heteronotus delineatus.

Nicole Eippers

Real strange to us (though we humans might look weird towards him/her!?) is this Heteronotus delineatus! I'm not sure if this is a Treehopper or a Thorn bug, but anyhow this odd creature belongs to the Membracidae family.
More of his/her cousins you can see on (for example) this blog.

This great collage was made and sent by Nicole Eippers, mail artist and pigs collector (so if ever you have a pig found or created, send it to her!).

More animals to see are, on the stamp, the Red Kite (Milvus milvus) and, on both front and back side of the envelope, of course the pig (I count even four).
