Ilmar

I was surprised to receive mail art by the Estonian artist Ilmar Kruusamäe. He apparently had found me via the Brain Cell address list.

Along with his own art, he sent me a brochure of the Kursi Koolkond Artists' group he is member of.

An Elk on stamp, a hairy but dada shaved Human Being, Anna herself, more Humans, and lots of bananas. Received from Anna Banana from Canada.





The postcard shows the cover of one of the VILE Magazines, issued in 1976.



NEver forget to brush your teeth, even after eating bananas.

Katerina Nikoltsou (19)

I love the way Katerina Nikoltsou re-uses envelopes: by simply using the reverse side!



Several animals are to be seen: a Dog, an Elephant, Greek Owls, Human Beings on the stamps, and on the inside Butterflies.



I am not sure if the content was meant for me or for Erni. Anyway, the message is clear (I must confess I hadn't take the time to do so in the past year): we should send mail art - dada or whatever kind of art - to Erni.

This entry for the 'What or whom is she staring at?' project came from Katerina Nikoltsou from Greece. Katerina's creation suddenly made me wonder if the animals' name, Dolphin, has to do something with the famous ancient Greek oracle place Delphi. I looked it up, and yes, there is a connection (or not?)!



On the back side nice mail art things, among them artistamps from other mail artists, and matching Greek stamp prints.
And inside the envelope some other materials, among them a colouring plate, showing the wise Owls and - probably - the wise goddess Athena:



Katerina also added a ruler, showing nice Owls, too. A big surprise, an excellent gift which I can use to draw straight lines in my own mail art.

An armed Rabbit and an air mail Pigeon.

Personally I prefer mail to arms, and I wouldn't be surprised if many mail artists do so, too. At least the great artistamps - which were part of the content of this envelope - are hopeful: sunflowers will be growing larger and are reaching higher than tanks do.
