Tonipoet (7)

A Bug, Monkey and that poor* Sloth united in this beautiful collage by ToniPoet from the USA.

(* had to walk all by him-/herself, while that other sloth was more fortunate)

On the envelope more animals show up, so to see the Snake and Lizard hardly escaped from the USPS inking seasonal machines!

And a leaded / stained glass like image (Marc Chagall's?),

and on the back side of this paper some other (human) animals: soccer players:

Dancers / twisters:

Last but not least Toni added some money: fluxus bucks!
Great to see how this bank note traveled via several mail artists.

Thank you very much, Toni!

Dean, Artist in Seine (5)

Received from Dean, Artist in Seine, this great collage. I first thought the animal to be a Donkey, because of the tail and maybe long ears, but then I thought it a Zebra who was losing his or her stripes, thus becoming a Horse. Is my theory correct? I will never know, unless Dean gives a clue :-)

On the back side a Lizard or Varanus, and a ticket-giving-Human, along with some more Human beings.

Thank you very much, Dean!

Kerosene (9)

Beautiful artistamps, made by Darlene Altschul, from California, sent to me by Kerosene from Canada!

Besides the Turtles / Tortoises on these stamps she also added this Sea Turtle, probably swum from an encyclopedia:

And some other interesting creatures:

All arrived in this envelope:

Thank you very much, Kerosene!

Tonipoet (6)

The Komodo Varanus (or Komodo Dragon) always has fascinated me, and I am happy to receive this (presently largest) lizard, created by Tonipoet.

She created a pretty envelope around it, too. I am fond of cartoons and animation movies, so always happy to receive envelopes like this. It is from a movie which I didn't see though (I only saw part 1), 'How to train your Dragon 2'.

Thank you very much, Toni!

Nicole Eippers (24)

Each time I'm receiving mail art from Nicole Eippers I'm happily surprised. Not only her collages are perfect, to my opinion, but also she knows how to surprise me again and again with her animal findings.

This time I received a music making (and flying) Chameleon, with two lizards in the audience.

On the back Nicole's famous Flying Pig.

Thank you very much, Nicole!

Nicole Eippers (15)

Nicole Eippers always makes beautiful collages. This time it's a desert lizard, the Thorny dragon (Moloch horridus), who ran into my mailbox. With of course Nicole's famous Pig, and the beautiful Belgian Butterfly stamp.

Nicole is an official Pig collector, so check her incoming mail art and have yourself inspired: I think she'll always appreciate new Piggy mail art!

Thank you very much, merci beaucoup, Nicole!

Valentine Mark Herman (2)

An other weird interesting Austalian animal is the Monitor Lizard (Varanus), a large reptile.
Here pictured by Valentine Mark Herman, who makes a lot of great dot-art, and sent me this from France.

And see the postage stamp, a new French stamp, about which you can find some more information on Hawwa's weblog. By the augmented picture on her website I learned to take a closer look to this stamp and learned that there's not only this La Poste woman, but also two playing children on the picture.

Thank you very much, Valentine, for your wonderful mail art!
Concerning the self portrait on the back, er, I'll reply to you by mail art :-)

Amy

Not really intended for this RWA mail art project, but received as a 'thank you' mail from my partner-in-LEP Amy from Australia.
In Australia some of my most favourite animals live, who happen to be weird animals: the platypus, echidna and kookaburra (and many others of course :-) .
But when you think about it, also the 'common' animals are weird. And very friendly! Would we give milk to others, apart from our own children? Would we have our hairs shaved, so that others can make yarn and cloths of it?

Thank you very much, Amy, for your kind letter and animals, and the stamps which unintentionally provided me of more food-for-thought (which is always welcomed!).

Ciara Barsotti

This animal I wouldn't call a 'Real weird animal' but rather a 'Real clever animal'.
Many years ago I used to have three albino rats at home as pets. They came from a university lab and were considered 'superfluous' and would have been killed together with more colleague rats, if not some student had tried to find a home for them in time. Luckily all of them found a safe shelter, and three of them became member of my - at that time one person - household. So funny animals, such a pleasant company!
And I learned that these animals really are clever and sympathetic pets. O.k., I admit: my little room mates had red beady eyes, which seemed weird to some people. And their long pink tail looks a bit weird, too. But turned out to be a super handy 'tool', a fifth 'limb' for holding balance, for climbing etcetera.

So I was happily surprised when Ciara Barsotti sent me this great little Pet Rats Zine. The reason to exchange mail was a swap about a totally different subject. So this Zine - and look at the great silhouet animal rubberstamps! - wasn't meant for this RWA-blog either. But as I regard Ciara as an amazing animal designer (and she draws much more, check her sketchbook for the SBP), I am happy to welcome these animals here.

Nicole Eippers

As an answer to the wolf and three pigs, Nicole Eippers sent me this amazing lizard: the Basilisk!
Apart from his/her appearance, the Basilisk also is weird and wonderful because of his/her ability to run on the surface of water.

Nicole must be an expert on an other wonderful, weird and clever animal: the Pig. See the great Priority flying Pig label and Piggy stamp!

More pigs - made by other mail artists - you can find on (and add to) her Piggy One Mailart website.
Be sure to check Nicole Eippers' own art work on Piggy Own Mailart.

Merci beaucoup, dankuwel, Nicole!
