"Startled Armadillo" is the title of this fascinating piece of mail art, created and sent by Toni Hanner. I love Armadillos (named 'Gordeldier' in Dutch, which literally means 'belt animal'). And I hope this fellow doesn't have to be in fear for a too long time..

An interesting parcel arrived in the Netherlands, all the way from China.
From an unknown sender!



Containing a present, which made me very Happy!
A beautiful fabric pen case, with a very friendly text, accompanied by two friendly vegetarian animals: the long-eared Rabbit, and the long-necked Giraffe.



Always 'in' for nice surprises. But also always too curious to know where my received mail comes from... Frustrating to not know that...

Wait... Look at my name above the address. How could the unknown sender know that I had a discussion about 'babbelaars' lately?



(About 'roomboterbabbelaars', even!) That could have been some Princess, or Peeee. Or accompanying Person.

This wise looking giraffe I received from Eva from Spain.
Despite the giraffe's opinion I'm convinced giraffes truely are weird animals, having their long neck and spotted skin.
But probably, conversely they will think us humans weird, having short necks and short front legs!?!

This beautiful collage, made by Isabelle Paris, survived a postal journey, sent on the outside of an envelop from France.
I'm not sure whether the animal is a weasel or an ermine in summer fur, but definitely he/she is a mustelid and feels home in this beautiful garden! And did you note the camouflaged frog?
Funny is the stamp, to my surprise it's the very first cat in this project!

Inside the collaged envelop I found another collage treasure: a sweet giraffe calf. While the adult giraffes have small horns on their heads, the newborn ones seem to have a kind of dark hair instead.

Ola Helland

I feel honoured to have received the very first entries to the RealWeirdAnimals project from Ola!

The Beaver - 'Bever' both in Norsk and Dutch - drawn with just a few lines tells a lot. And opens my eyes: a funny thing is that certain animals of which I always thought they were common (and which I wouldn't expect to be sent for this project), aren't that common at all!

Beavers indeed have peculiar things. The flat broad tail, their ability to build dams and lodges, their webbed hind-feet and orange teeth... Indeed a real weird animal!



Similar weird is the Giraffe, with his/her long and strong neck, noteworthy spots and blue tongue.
