Alan Brignull (2)

Alan Brignull is a great print maker. I am happy to have received this print of the Hedgehog.

It came in this envelope, bottom right you can see a referral to the Adanaland Hedge Fund:

Alan added interesting postage stamps of Royals, along with some other animals: Lions (why do Lions on coats of arms always pull out their tongues?!?), a Griffin, Deer and Horses.

Inside the envelope also this interesting experiment with printing coins:

Thank you very much, Alan!

GX Jupitter-Larsen (2)

The same envelope by Ruud Janssen appears to be a source of various interpretations. GX made them. I already was spoiled by beautiful animal stamps, and am happy to see many more of them. Thank you, GX Jupitter-Larsen!

Galerie Le Lab

For the people who visit this Real Weird Animals website at a regular base it will be clear: I consider Humans animals, and Fish clearly are animals.
So the amazing combination of the two, Mermaids, must be animals who fit in this blog, too.

This jolly Mermaid has been created by Jean Claude Sarpi of Galerie Le Lab, as a reply to the Mermaid envelope I had sent to Marseille for the mail art project 'Mermaid in the port, queens of the sea...'.

And some land animals you can see on the postage stamp: a poor deer, attacked by a hunting feline and a man...

Nice detail (I think), added by the Post: the Marseille Post Office apparently considered this beautiful artistamp as a regular stamp.

Thank you very much, merci beaucoup, Jean Claude!

Tiziana Baracchi

Nice combination of visual poetry and collage. Showing animals who usually seem to be common, to us. But in fact they're great - and weird!
The striped zebra, the long nose of the elephant, and whoever would wear branches on his head?! And see how pinguins resemble humans.

This fine mail art has been created and sent by Tiziana Baracchi from Italy.

Grazie mille, Tiziana!

Tiziana has an interesting mail art project, dedicated to the late Italian mail artist Guglielmo Achille Cavellini. This year it's 100 years ago that he was born.

Amuldo (4)

Great pen drawings by Amuldo from the Netherlands. And out of the 20 stamps stampsheet, she choose my favourite stamp: the one with the Postman!

Hartelijk dank, Amuldo, en ook voor jou en de jouwen een heel v(sp)oorspoedig 2014!

Nico van Hoorn (2)

I always love the Pinguin and moon stamp from Nico van Hoorn. And, similar to the Deer and Godwit on the front side of the envelope, now the pinguin is not alone anymore!

Below a picture of, er...? Beautiful colours in any case!

Thank you very much, hartelijk dank, Nico!

Reiner Langer

Several mail artists do agree: one of the most weird animals are we, human beings.
While people call fighting men sometimes 'animals', especially at wars, I think most animals are better than that, because their fights at least have a purpose (getting food, survival of the fittest etcetera).
This mail art I receivd from Reiner Langer from Germany.

Probably not meant for this Real Weird Animals project, but I think it's very apt, showing two mammals, both of them being or threatened to be a victim of violence.
Rainer has a mail art project themed 'WAR', so if you consider to participate, check his website.

Vielen Dank, Reiner!

Anna Banana

The Aye-Aye is a fascinating mammal (as is mankind)!
In Dutch we call this animal 'Vingerdier', 'Finger animal', because of his long middle finger.
This time the Aye-Aye appeared on an envelope, created and sent by Anna Banana from Canada, as a thank you for colour test prints I had sent to Anna.

And in the envelope more great surprises: beautiful artistamps, a printed card, and a recent issue of the Zine 'Bananarag'.

Thank you very much, Anna!

Serse Luigetti

A Horse! Such a common animal, loved by many. 'Common', but when looking close, it becomes clear that Horses are a kind of weird, too!
There are only a few animals who allow people to sit on their back for hours and still keep on smiling (in the Horse's case, keep on their ears up).

Serse Luigetti from Italy created this beautiful Paper Horse, and of course - I think - Serse's Mail Art wouldn't be complete without some visual poetry.

On the envelope some more animals.
Below a detail of this very inconvenient truth:

Serse added a few postcards, of which in this one I see a wellknown animal, too (already visualised by many artists): the Human Being.

Here more of Serse Luigetti's visual poetry. I cannot read it, so if anyone can decode the text, please let me know. Or am I so weird not to see - and just enjoy, nothing more - the visual image?!

(I love the envelop between the rounds!).
Thanks a lot, grazie mille, Serse!
